Another one down. Just a quick note of thanks to all the folks who showed up
and made it fun.
Most everyone showed up on Friday night and we banged around our trucks
Saturday morning on "Rock On". Captain Rick showed us how to change a tie
rod while perched on a rock ledge. That was neat. After lunch we watched
Rami get psycho with a chainsaw and with the rest of the crew cleaning up
behind him, managed to cut a new trail for Dave. He has been wanting to cut
through this extension for the last 5 years or so. We did it in 2 hours.
Dinner on Saturday was interesting as the meat I ordered was like one of the
lugs off a swamper, but fun was had by all nonetheless.
The FJCs got an early start Sunday morning as they wanted to be on the road
by afternoon. We all caught up to each other on "Snake on Through" otherwise
known as "Winching Woytovich". Josh drove almost the whole thing by himself
with me spotting, but it took a seasoned driver like myself to lay the left
rear door into a tree. Mike Stevens was behind me and with a gentile tug,
pulled me sideways for another shot. No damage, but Josh won't let me forget
it anytime soon.
The FJCs headed down to the field to pack up and I wanted to be the first 80
Series down the new trail. It's an easy run for the most part, but there are
some fairly deep gullies where the spring run off has eroded the shale. With
some good spotting I was able to straddle the center and drove on down. Once
at the end of this trail you have nowhere to go but back up as Dave hasn't
cut an access trail through with the dozer yet. All 4 trucks turned around
and we were ready to head back for lunch when Mark noticed a leaf spring
shim plate on the ground. Hmmmm.that's not a good thing. We then had a
lesson in replacing the center pin on the rear of a Ford Bronco.
By the time we got back to the field everyone had cleared out. Mike Stevens
had brought a sampling of the new BBQ joint that will be catering CMCC this
year, so we all chowed on pulled pork sandwiches with a variety of homemade
sauces on hot dog buns. Yummy. Nice end to a nice weekend.
Thanks to all who attended and helped with the trail cutting and cleanup.
You folks are what this group is all about.
